Best Super Bowl moment for the Dallas Cowboys

What moment stands out for you among the Cowboys Super Bowls?

NFL: Super Bowl Rings Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The final game of the NFL season will soon be upon us, the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the Cowboys will not be playing in it. So, to soothe our souls, let’s take a look back and determine the best moment from Super Bowls with the Cowboys in days gone past. “Best moments” preclude memorable moments that didn’t go the Cowboys way, like the Jackie Smith drop against Pittsburgh, or Leon Lett getting run down at the goal line in the game against Buffalo. Also, we’ve been liberal with the interpretation of moment, which could include a collection of plays from one player.

Without further ado, here are the candidates.

Super Bowl 6 - Bob Lilly 29-yard sack. The Cowboys thoroughly dominated this game, winning 24-3, to get their first Super Bowl victory. What will forever be remembered is Bob Lilly chasing down Bob Griese for a 29-yard sack.

Super Bowl 12 - Butch Johnson TD or Robert Newhouse TD pass to Golden Richards. We get two candidates from another blowout win for the Cowboys in a Super Bowl. Dallas beat Denver 27-10. In the game, Butch Johnson caught a bomb for a TD that was a tremendous catch, but would have been incomplete in today’s NFL. Also, Robert Newhouse took a pitch from Roger Staubach and instead of running the ball, pulled up and hit Golden RIchards for a touchdown.

Super Bowl 30 - Larry Brown two INTs versus Pittsburgh. The Cowboys appeared to be cruising to a victory in this game until Pittsburgh started to mount a comeback. They were thwarted when QB Neil O’Donnell threw to ridiculous interceptions to cornerback Larry Brown, cementing the win for Dallas.

Super Bowl 27 - Charles Haley sack leads to Jimmie Jones TD. This game had so many highlights it’s ridiculous. A 52-17 win will do that. Since we’re not doing the Leon Lett thing, we picked the Charles Haley sack where the ball popped up into the air and defensive tackle Jimmie Jones grabbed and fell into the end zone for a TD.

Super Bowl 28 - James Washington forced fumble, fumble recovery for a TD and an INT. We’re rolling James Washington’s trifecta into one moment. The Bills were actually getting momentum a couple of times in this game, but Washington came up huge and helped lead Dallas to victory.

Which of these get your vote for best “moment” in a Cowboys Super Bowl? If you have your own moment you would like to nominate, hit up the comments.
