Best place to watch the Super Bowl

Are you an at home person, or a communal experience person?

Watching The Super Bowl

The question has been asked. Where is the best place to watch the Super Bowl? It seems to me you have four general options, three of which make sense for the average fan. Those four are: at the stadium, at home, at a Super Bowl party, or at a sports bar.

For our purposes, we’re going to throw out the “at the stadium” option. If your team was playing in the game, and you had access to tickets and the means to buy them, that would be perfection. But really, for the average fan, the idea of watching Super Bowls year after year at the stadium where they are played is pretty unreasonable, so we’re throwing this option out. On to our final three.

At home. There are some real selling points for this option. One, you don’t have to move. Two, you get your favorite chair. Three, all of your food, snacks, and beverages are close by and ready for you to consume. Four, no one will be in your view of the TV or talking about subjects non-football-related. The downside, the communal experience is missing, the immediate reaction and bonding with other football fans at key moments. Also, you have to pay for everything you eat and drink. Still, there is a lot to recommend here.

Super Bowl viewing party. The pros here lie in the communal experience and the fact you may run into some fantastic food. Also, sometimes the game is shown on an enormous screen. Plus, there might be a plethora of adult beverages that are free. It can all lead to a great experience. Unless you can’t see the TV that well, or some annoying person keeps talking to you while a key moment is happening in the game. And you can get a lot of people who are not really interested in football attending.

Sports bar. This is a nice option if you have a bar that supports one team, or you like battling with the opposing team’s fans while the game is going on. It has the communal experience, and there are obviously all kinds of food and beverages to enjoy. The downside is you have to pay for the food and drink, and who knows what kind of view you will get of the game. If you arrive later than other folks, you might have to stand all game.

What’cha got BTB? Which Super Bowl viewing experience do you prefer?
