It’s pretty safe to rule out a trade for Earl Thomas at this point, even if they did make a trade he wouldn’t be able to play this year. Potential discount free agents like George Iloka, Eric Reid, and Kenny Vaccaro are all off the market. Jeff Heath seems entrenched at one safety spot, and Kavon Frazier filled in admirably for Xavier Woods before he returned.
Still, the Cowboys are looking for more from their safety group, as they signed Darian Thompson earlier this week. Of course, Thompson won’t be starting and it seems that Woods and Heath will continue to be the top two guys back there, especially after Woods came up with a pick last week. However, the move highlights that the safety position has been the weakest position on this defense thus far, and could be a potential liability as we move forward.
