Cowboys defensive tackle David Irving has finished serving out his four-game suspension and is now back on the roster. While this was a move everyone expected, the bigger question is who would the Cowboys move to make room for him. Well, that answer was revealed this afternoon as the team placed Travis Frederick and Terrance Williams on injured reserve.

Frederick has yet to play this season after being diagnosed with Guillian-Barre syndrome which is an auto-immune disease that causes him to lose strength in his muscles. The move to place him on IR means that the team’s All-Pro center will be on the shelf for the next eight games. The Cowboys have a much better understanding of where they stand with him in terms of him regaining his physical strength and are optimistic he can return for the team’s final three games of the season. Frederick commented on his progress thus far:

“My doctor is very happy with the progress,’’ Frederick said. “As far as the team goes, it’s obviously disappointing I haven’t been able to be back yet, but the fact I’m making progress and the fact we’re talking about when I can come back rather than if I can come back is definitely a positive thing.’

As for Williams, he is battling a foot injury. He has surgery during the offseason and there are still some lingering effects as he hasn’t been practicing lately. The Cowboys have several receivers on the roster and he wasn’t being used much anyways. Williams has only two catches on the year for just 18 yards.

Both Frederick and Williams were taken in the 2013 NFL Draft. In fact, Williams was the bonus draft capital the Cowboys acquired from the San Francisco 49ers when they traded back and selected Frederick. They will be forever connected for that and now they both hit IR.
