For what feels like centuries the Dallas Cowboys have “gone to the well” of contracts from their offensive linemen.
Jerry and Co. have restructured Tyron Smith (other players, too) when cap space is needed in years past, and it seems like offensive line tradition is continuing. The Cowboys are reportedly flipping the Travis Frederick switch to generate $7.5M in cap space.

What are the Cowboys creating cap space for, you ask? There are a number of possibilities.
Dallas might be getting ready to finally get Zack Martin’s long-term extension done, or they could be readying the cannons to fire at a big-time free agent. It’s worth noting Jane Slater reported this shortly after reporting that there was a steep price associated with both Earl Thomas and Tyrann Mathieu.
Talked to a Cowboys team source on both the Earl Thomas and Tyrann Mathieu “price too high”. Issue is trade/give up something + new deal

Of course, this trigger switch could be just an anticipatory move in an effort to clear space for the 2018 rookies; however, that wouldn’t be any fun. Let’s hope for something a bit more glamours, right?
