For a guy who has a pretty big name and performed well in 2017, linebacker NaVorro Bowman isn’t receiving a lot of interest in free agency as of yet. It’s been reported that his last team, the Oakland Raiders, have a deal on the table to bring him back. It must be a low-ball offer since Bowman remains unsigned. Outside of that, his name isn’t showing up much in free agency rumors.
Yesterday, we ran a poll looking at five free agents who could help the Cowboys. We wanted to know who you thought the Cowboys should make a priority to sign. The result of that poll, at the time of this writing, was that out of 5,536 votes, safety Kenny Vaccaro was first with 39% and NaVorro Bowman was second with 35%. So the Cowboys fan base is interested in bringing in Bowman, but is the Cowboys front office? Mike Fisher offers us an answer:
Source close to LB NaVorro Bowman situation tells me #Cowboys like him, as they did when free last Oct. 14. But DAL not YET prioritizing as they chase OL help in #NFLFreeAgency pic.twitter.com/c0KZBMXHwQ— mike fisher ✭ (@fishsports) March 18, 2018
The Cowboys need help at linebacker. We all know the story. Anthony Hitchens left in free agency, and the Cowboys have Jaylon Smith trying to become a full-time starter, but no one is sure if he can get there. Then there is the Sean Lee injury situation that is always a worry. A veteran linebacker who can still produce on the field would be an ideal pickup for the Cowboys.
Bowman may not be the star he once was, but he certainly put together a good season for the Raiders last year. Maybe the Cowboys are just biding their time, waiting for prices to fall, before they circle back to Bowman. They tried to sign him mid-season last year after the 49ers released him. This offseason they could actually make it happen.
