While the Cowboys were busy signing wide reciever Allen Hurns today, they lost a much lesser-known player. Cornerback Bene Benwikere has agreed to terms with the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year deal.

Benwikere was brought in as insurance last year after the Cowboys re-made their secondary by letting Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr go, while also drafting three corners in the 2017 draft. Dallas traded for him during the preseason. It turns out that the Cowboys draft picks in the secondary were more than capable of playing at the NFL level, so Benwikere rarely saw the field.

He did appear in 12 games this year for Dallas, but played a minimal role. The Cowboys also let Orlando Scandrick go this offseason, furthering their efforts to completely revamp their secondary. Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis and safety-turn-corner Byron Jones should be the top three corners heading into 2018. Anthony Brown, who is trying to bounce-back from a down 2017, would likely be the top reserve. The Cowboys could still sign a cheap veteran to round out the unit.
