Every year, Mike Mayock does one mock draft. Unlike the rest of the mock draft world where more is better, he goes with the less is best approach. Mayock gets a lot of respect from some, not so much from others, but we’ll go ahead and see what he has for the Cowboys in the first round.
He’s giving the Cowboys a wide receiver, and it’s not Calvin Ridley or D.J. Moore. Instead, it’s Courtland Sutton.
He’s got outstanding hands. Oily hips, ability to get in and out of breaks. You can throw the ball to this guy immediately, and he’s capable of making an impact.
With Jason Garrett personally heading down to SMU’s Pro Day to take a look at Sutton, and with his physical qualities somewhat reminiscent of Dez Bryant - you can see why some people are mocking Sutton to Dallas. Sutton seems to be a kind of a boom or bust type pick, some observers see physical gifts that could translate to big things in the future, others think his tape doesn’t match his gifts.
Players that Mayock passed up to give the Cowboys Sutton include: DE Harold Landry, G Isaiah Wynn, the aforementioned WRs Calvin Ridley and D.J. Moore, LB Rashaan Evans, DT Taven Bryan, G Will Hernandez, G James Daniels and LB Leighton Vander Esch.
Over to you BTB, what’s your call on Courtland Sutton to the Cowboys at pick #19?
