Over the last few weeks Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware had been on hand at The Star working with pass rushers during OTAs.
There were many that took this as a sign of hope, a potential indicator that Ware would at some point legitimately join the Cowboys coaching staff. Jason Garrett isn’t one to shy away from former players. He’s given recent guys like Miles Austin and Marc Colombo opportunities.
Of course, sadly, the Cowboys aren’t the only team that Ware played for in his soon-to-be Hall of Fame career. In 2014 Ware was released and joined the Denver Broncos where he was part of the reason that they won Super Bowl 50. Ware has been working with them as well over OTAs, and it seems like it’s stuck to a degree. They’re reportedly hiring him on a part-time basis.
Broncos are hiring former LB DeMarcus Ware as a pass-rush consultant on a part-time basis, per source. Ware will work a few days a week, a few times a month, trying to help improve Denver’s pass rushers.

Ware is famously close with star Broncos pass rusher, and Texas native, Von Miller. From a football perspective it’ll be fascinating (and terrifying for the AFC West) to see Ware primarily coach Von as opposed to teaching him while also being his teammate as he did a few years ago.
Through the lens of the blue and silver though, this isn’t the job we’d prefer to see Ware take. DeMarcus Ware is pretty inexperienced as a pass-rush coach, but you might be better served to have him on your coaching staff than to not have him on your coaching staff.
For whatever reason it worked out that the Broncos would hire Ware, not the Cowboys. As we did four years ago when he first headed to the Mile High City, we, of course, wish him the best of luck.
