It seems like it’s always something with the Dallas Cowboys could-be-star defensive tackle David Irving. In what has already been a tumultuous offseason for the fourth-year veteran, things don’t seem to show any sign of slowing down anytime soon.

First, some good news...

He is already suspended for the first four games of the season, but he won’t have any tacked on with regards to the alleged domestic violence case from earlier this year. From ESPN’s Todd Archer:

Suspended the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving will not be punished by the league under the personal conduct policy stemming from a domestic violence allegation made by a former girlfriend that was later recanted, sources told ESPN.

You’ll remember that David Irving had experienced an issue where his Twitter account was hacked by his former girlfriend and multiple accusations were thrown his way. His accuser would later recant her story, but many were aware that the NFL could investigate the matter further.

Again, Irving is suspended for the first four games of the season, but that is in regards to a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, but barring anything else it appears that will be it.

And now for the not-so-great news...

The troubled pass rusher did not report to training camp with the rest of the team on Tuesday, according to the Star-Telegram.

There is no timetable for him to report as he has been excused to address ongoing personal issues, per sources.

The training camp hold up came on the same day sources confirmed that Irving will not be punished by the league under the personal conduct policy stemming from a domestic violence allegation made by a former girlfriend that was later recanted.

What this means exactly as far as when he will return is anyone’s guess. It’s hard to know what the team has in a player when he’s just not around. The raw ability of Irving has such a strong appeal, but when they can’t count of someone to be there - well, that’s just no fun for anyone.

Stay tuned as the Irving saga continues...
