Jason Garrett speaks about the plan for Randy Gregory now that he’s off NFI list

The head coach keeps us up-to-date on 2018 training camp.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys-Training Camp Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Training camp is rolling along and our coverage rolls along as we check in with the head coach at his press conference today.

Jason Garrett took the podium on Wednesday. Here’s what he had to say.

What’s the plan with Randy Gregory after taking him off NFI?

We want to get Randy on the field but still be deliberate. He’s in good shape, he kept himself in great shape and he’s making progress. We don’t want to compromise him by going to fast. We want to progress deliberately. Taking him off NFI let’s him go through walk-throughs in the morning. We’ll just watch him and see what he can handle. We want to get him acclimated in the mornings then progress but certainly we’re optimistic.

Will Sean Lee practice more/play this preseason?

Sean Lee does great job of getting himself ready to play. Sometimes have to protect him from himself. We’ll get him practicing more as we go.

Talk about Bo Scarbrough

We like Bo, you’re looking for best player available late in the draft. He stuck out, we had a higher grade on him. He’s got a chance to compete for a running back spot. Coach Saban endorsed him as player and a person. He works hard, we definitely see the talent and he’ll get opportunities in the preseason. Coach Saban had a big influence on me, on the systems we run, we believe in what I learned from him.

How is Byron Jones progressing?

Byron is off to a good start in moving back to corner. He played corner and safety in college, even when he was playing safety for us we put him in coverage situations so this isn’t totally foreign to him. He is making plays and playing with confidence.

Do you like Kris Richard’s animated style.

He’s a passionate guy and an excellent teacher. He’s a competitive guy that was one of the things we liked about him, he brings a lot to team. (Did you like him getting involved in some of the stuff during yesterday's practice?) I think it’s great, there are so many different things to accomplish in practice, and one thing is we believe in making sure the practice is competitive. Guys are competing for jobs on their own side, and going against the other side in 1-on-1, 7-on-7 or team. We want to create situations to see how they respond.
