Cowboys 2018 training camp: Practice #6 recap with photos and videos

All you need to know from the Cowboys practice today.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys-Training Camp Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Wednesday marks the Cowboys sixth practice of training camp and fourth with the pads on. Who were the guys that didn’t give it a go today for one reason or another?

Jason Garrett said it best in his presser, “Lee does a great job at getting himself ready for the game. Sometimes have to protect him from himself. We’ll get him practicing more as we go.”

Also, a few other guys were getting a day’s rest but Taco Charlton is the only one to keep an eye on as he looked to have dinged his hand yesterday in practice:

Though Tyrone Crawford was getting some much needed rest, he answered the question of his biggest fear:

Though the Cowboys plan on taking it slow with Randy Gregory, his coaches are pretty impressed by what he’s done thus far:

We’ll continue to monitor those guys for any updates but that’s all we got for now. Let’s get into practice, shall we?

Dang, coach. Take it easy:

To keep with the new routine, a veteran Cowboys player led the team in stretches today. No big deal, it’s just the best left tackle in football:

Also another known fact about “America’s Team”: They travel well.

It’s only right to start practice out with a look at the Cowboys’ MVP, Ezekiel Elliott:

After the offense had their behinds whipped yesterday, Dak Prescott was ready to start dishing it:

The defensive backs have been one of the most interesting positions to watch and it’s all fueled by the competitive fire that burns within thanks to Kris Richard:

It didn’t start well for Dak Prescott with this overthrow of Tavon Austin, nice coverage by training camp warrior Byron Jones:

It’s okay... third time’s the charm as Prescott finally got the connection going with Tavon:

Dak to Tavon again, though Byron was hot on his trail:

When you got the burners, running the nine route is good option for Tavon:

The Cowboys have big plans for the rookie linebacker Leighton Vander Esch:

The rookie linebacker knocked away a pass later on:

As compete period got underway, the receivers were looking to gain one back on a defense that had them beat yesterday, up first Michael Gallup:

The best thing about Gallup is that he fights from start to finish against some solid coverage by Byron, here’s another look:

Damien Wilson showed rookie Dalton Schultz that he has a lot to learn in blocking a linebacker:

A nice battle brewing between FB Jamize Olawale and the Cowboys first-round pick:

Check out this grab by Terrance Williams, nice job bringing this one in:

Anthony Brown with great effort to knock this one away:

Jourdan Lewis right back at it to blanket his man here:

There has been a lot more effort to get the running backs involved in the passing game, here’s a peek at Bo Scarbrough:

Another pass to Rod Smith:

It’s never a bad idea to throw it to 21, could end up going 80+ against the Steelers, remember?

Ezekiel Elliott doing what he does best, scoring touchdowns:

Almost takes it in again here on the pass from Dak:

Jeff Heath says “I don’t think so, Geoff Swaim!”:

Heath wasn’t done either as this next play is very familiar for guys named Jameis Winston, Kirk Cousins, Eli Manning, and Alex Smith:

Heath comes back later to deny a third-and-goal:

Heath wasn’t the only defensive back with a pick today, the next came from former DB Kris Richard?!

Speaking of tight ends, Blake Jarwin looked pretty good on this one from Mike White, two guys that will play a lot in the preseason:

White may like Jarwin but we know Cooper Rush loves him some Rico Gathers!

This is unacceptable though, that was perfectly placed by Dak Prescott:

Blake Jarwin is a tough match for Jourdan Lewis on this one:

Tough day at the office for those tasked with covering Blake Jarwin:

Don’t worry Jourdan Lewis did what a lot of guys haven’t been able to this training camp, cover Cole Beasley:

Covering Tavon Austin in space is something I don’t wish on my worst enemies. Actually, not true, good luck Eagles.

Lance Lenoir is doing everything he can to make this roster:

I wouldn’t want to be the guy getting hit in the chest by these dudes:

With many of the big names taking a seat, Dorance Armstrong gets an opportunity at valuable reps:

MICHAEL GALLUP! Sorry Byron but that’s a catch, son!

Byron Jones vs. Michael Gallup may be my favorite battle to watch. “Iron sharpening iron” for sure.

Dalton Schultz making up for that bad one-on-one against Damien Wilson earlier by walking this one in:

Rookie quarterback to rookie tight end in coverage by the rookie linebacker. Just a little rookie-on-rookie crime:

After the defense got a huge win against the offense yesterday, today’s practice was much more competitive by both sides. Overall, the offense avenged their loss yesterday though the defense still looks good:

The biggest takeaway though has got to be a connection brewing between Dak Prescott and Michael Gallup. They were unstoppable together on that field.
