Cowboys roster update: A wide receiver in, and a pass rusher out

Things are getting shaken up a bit.

NFL: Houston Texans at Carolina Panthers Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

As they get ready to depart from Oxnard, CA back to the much-hotter Frisco, TX, the Dallas Cowboys are doing so with a few changes to their roster. They’re bringing in some wide receiver help and parting ways with one of their defensive ends.

The Cowboys are bringing in Dres Anderson (yes, son of Flipper Anderson) and moving on from Joby Saint Fleur. This is the second time this week that the Cowboys have tinkered with their roster as they signed wide receiver Darren Carrington and offensive lineman Jacob Alsadek on Monday while waiving/injuring Marchie Murdock and putting Marcus Martin on injured reserve.

Carrington and Alsadek essentially replaced Murdock and Martin on the roster, at least positionally. Bringing in Anderson for Saint Fleur is a move of a different kind.

These are bodies for the remainder of preseason and you can never have enough receivers to run routes for your quarterbacks. The Cowboys have a lot of decisions to make at the wide receiver spot, perhaps they’re ready to put some of it on ice and want to simply get through the rest of the preseason unharmed.

If you recognized Dres Anderson’s name you might have seen him at Utah in recent years (Darren Carrington also played at Utah). He’s bounced around so far throughout his NFL career with stops at the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, Houston Texans, Washington Redskins, and Indianapolis Colts. You can watch some of his highlights below.
