Cowboys 2018 training camp: Michael Gallup & Lance Lenoir dominate, plus injury update

Michael Gallup and Lance Lenoir put on a show but it was a bit overshadowed by early exits for Leighton Vander Esch and Tavon Austin.

The Cowboys are back and refreshed from their day off for a couple of more practices before they head back home on Friday.

A couple of guys that are dealing with a few nagging injuries were in attendance but aren’t expected to do much:

There is good news on Frederick:

Other injury updates:

Always a good idea to start the day off with a visit from Mr. 21, Ezekiel Elliott:

Hey guys, let’s not get too carried away out there. Tavon Austin got dinged up early in practice:

And the update:

This is the very definition of “iron sharpening iron” with Sean Lee covering Ezekiel Elliott:

Sean Lee was not convinced that was a reception... he’s most definitely going to argue that one under his breath:

Oh but it was a completion, Mr. Lee:

On the next try, Lee gets flagged for defensive holding:

Rod Smith beats brother Jaylon Smith:

Leighton Vander Esch, cover tight ends much? Woof, that was an ugly rep.

Damien Wilson on the other hand says sit down, Jamize Olawale!

Nifty footwork by Allen Hurns to make this catch, Byron Jones really made him work for it:

Dalton Schultz just toying with Tyree Robinson:

Okay, could guys stop getting nicked up, it’s Jamize Olawale this time:

Starting at his own one-yard line, Hi Zeke! Bye Zeke!

Another look at Ezekiel Elliott crushing the defense’s soul:

DeMarcus Lawrence was waiting for Zeke on this one, not much gained:

Wowza! Tank Lawrence beating La’el Collins badly on this one:

Add Leighton Vander Esch to the list of guys visiting the trainers today:

LVE reportedly has a strained groin but it’s not believed to be too serious.

Dak Prescott was a tad late on the deep ball to Terrance Williams so Byron Jones decided to undercut it, PICKED!

Here is the play LVE was injured on:

Here’s the beautiful backside view of Byron Jones’ interception:

Sean Lee read Ezekiel Elliott like an All-Pro linebacker should on this one:

An easy walk the dog for Ezekiel Elliott:

A closer look shows some great pulling by the O-Line on Elliott’s TD run:

Dak eats it on this one as he was going to keep it, that pass rush was too fast, too furious:

It’s easy M’Kay...Mekale McKay of course:

There is that man again, Bo Scarbrough for the catch and score:

In the immortal words of The Spinners: “Whenever you call me, I’ll be there!” Michael “Always Open” Gallup because who else?

Sean Lee in there for the stop on Zeke...again. Let’s just assume if a runner needs to be stopped, #50 is making that stop:

Nice catch by Allen Hurns as he wears Chidobe Awuzie around him like a coat:

Nice seam route by Geoff Swaim, easy target, easy catch:

Zack Martin just stifles his opponent’s momentum:

On the next rep, Zack Martin pins his man. It’s best to just stay down, sir.

Connor Williams counters Jihad Ward and puts him on the ground:

Gallup takes Jourdan Lewis’ lunch money on this touchdown:

Sidestepping to the sideline as Michael Gallup hauls another one in from Dak Prescott:

Is Stop-N-Go back in business? KD Cannon sure thinks so as he fools Jourdan Lewis:

Lewis rebounded with this pass breakup intended for Gallup:

Cooper Rush looking for the mismatch finds Rod Smith DEEP for the completion over Justin March-Lillard:

Kavon Frazier reads Prescott’s intended pass for Gallup and denies the offense!

Michael Gallup comes right back for more with the completion on the slant:

What a nice toss by Mike White who finds KD Cannon for the touchdown:

Damien Wilson just handling his business with this pass breakup:

Hey Dorance Armstrong, what did you do today. “Oh nothing much, just beat Tyron Smith on my first compete rep. No big deal.”

Well, one of three is a lot better than most pass rushers in the NFL, Dorance.

La’el Collins wasn’t having any of it from DeMarcus Lawrence...DISMISSED!

It just isn’t happening, Daniel Ross. That’s Zack Martin.

Elliott making his own way around the entire defense:

Well some people are just born to rush...Randy Gregory with the would-be sack on Dak Prescott:

Make that a double for Randy Gregory:

I remember a certain BTB front page writer claiming it wouldn’t take long for Gregory to show out:

Nice PBU by Marquez White, completely rejects that ball headed for Lance Lenoir:

Cooper Rush drops a dime to Michael Gallup streaks into the end zone:

Dak Prescott finds his man, Lance Lenoir for the touchdown!

Dak pulls a “Tony Romo” as he motions Lenoir to the corner for the score!

All in a day’s work for Lance Lenoir, who follows that up with another score, this time with the second team:

Mike White ends the practice with his own TD pass to Mekale McKay, who Sean Lee reminds quickly of his chances of making this roster...OUCH.

And that’s a wrap from today’s practice in Oxnard. Hopefully the injuries to Tavon Austin, Leighton Vander Esch, and Jamize Olawale aren’t too serious. Dak Prescott’s new favorite receiver tandem of Michael Gallup and Lance Lenoir really put on a show out there with guest appearances by Allen Hurns. Overall, the offense won this day.
