The Cowboys returned to their home at The Star after spending the last month in Oxnard, California. It’s not an open practice without a little pomp and circumstance from owner Jerry Jones:

Probably not a bad idea to practice indoors when it’s over 100 degrees outside:

Before practice began, the Cowboys were looking at adding some safeties with Xavier Woods’ hamstring strain and Jameill Showers’ ACL injury:
The Cowboys plan to workout safety Jeron Johnson on Tuesday, source said. He spent five seasons in Seattle, so new Cowboys DBs coach Kris Richard is very familiar with his work.

Cowboys are also signing safety Dominick Sanders, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Georgia
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 20, 2018
The Cowboys were also looking for defensive tackle depth:
Cowboys are signing DT Caraun Reid. Like Jason Garrett, he played at Princeton. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round in 2014
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 20, 2018
The Cowboys wasted no time in getting these guys on the practice field:
Newly-signed players: safety Dominick Sanders wearing No. 33, and DT Caraun Reid, No. 93, are both practicing here Monday at Ford Center. #Cowboyswire

The team will likely sign a backup center tomorrow, someone has to play these games!
Cowboys have signed 2 players today and will likely add a 3rd tomorrow in C Jacob Ohnesorge, an undrafted rookie from South Dakota State who was invited to Seattle's rookie camp, a source said.

As the Cowboys let their two inside All-Pros get rest, that offensive line doesn’t look recognizable:

Speaking of guys who weren’t going to be practicing today:
No practice today for: Tavon Austin, Cole Beasley, Zack Martin, Travis Frederick, Noah Brown, Deonte Thompson, Xavier Woods, Marqueston Huff, Leighton Vander Esch, Datone Jones

Let’s start with a few grand entrances, none as grand as the starting quarterback of “America’s Team”, Dak Prescott:

We follow that up with the leader of the Cowboys’ defense, Sean Lee:

An interesting note about practice, Blake Jarwin was working with the receivers:

The next man up for Xavier Woods was Kavon Frazier, always saw him as a strong safety but what other choice did they have?
Kavon Frazier working at safety in team drills in place of injured safety Xavier Woods. The Cowboys aren't practice in pads here for first practice this year at The Star in Frisco.

Cowboys safeties during today’s practice:
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 20, 2018
First-team: Jeff Heath, Kavon Frazier
Second-team: Kam Kelly, Tyree Robinson
Randy Gregory had a decent preseason debut and he was working with the ones as well today:
No pads today as the Cowboys practice inside the Ford Center. Randy Gregory continues to see a lot of work with the first-team defense in pass rushing situations
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 20, 2018
Could a certain someone be gaining favor in the offense?
Rico Gathers with a first-team snap and catch from Dak Prescott on a hot route. Folks might get what they want and see him play a lot vs. Arizona.

What else could you expect, that line is a little overmatched right now:
Joe Looney at center and Kadeem Edwards at right guard in place of Travis Frederick and Zack Martin on first-team offensive line in team drills for Cowboys. DE DeMarcus Lawrence just went right past Edwards in team drills.

Ezekiel Elliott coming right at you!

Geoff Swaim out here doing some tight end stuff, no big deal:

These next two weeks are going to be very valuable for guys like Mike White, will he do enough to convince the Cowboys to keep him?
Might have been rookie QB Mike White’s best throw of camp to date: a beautiful back-shoulder pass to Lance Lenoir down the left sideline in team drills. The Cowboys are practicing in shells today at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco. #cowboyswire
— Rob Phillips (@robphillips3) August 20, 2018
It was a short practice today but that’s expected with so many guys on the mend. The Cowboys will practice again tomorrow before they take Wednesday off. A quick rundown:
Also Randy Gregory got 1-team snaps on defense, Rico Gathers got 1 snap with 1-team. He’s still not making the 53. And Kavon Frazier plays SS with Jeff Heath moving to FS.
