The Cowboys had their second practice since returning home to The Star, let’s get the pre-practice stuff out of the way.
The Cowboys aren't practicing in pads again for second consecutive day in Frisco. Team appears to be done with pads and preseason games. Could be an overstatement, but not far off.

It seems like the Cowboys roster is starting to work itself out, the team doesn’t expect Datone Jones back anytime soon:
Cowboys DL Datone Jones will be out the next few weeks, coach Jason Garrett said, after he injured his knee in the preseason game Saturday vs. Cincinnati.
— Brandon George (@DMN_George) August 21, 2018
Jason Garrett said DT Datone Jones (knee) will miss practice the next two weeks. His status on the 53 is in doubt now.
— Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) August 21, 2018
Jason Garrett says he doesn’t expect Datone Jones to practice “in the next couple weeks,” which you would assume means he’s done for the preseason, which concludes in nine days. Interesting to see how that affects roster decisions #cowboyswire

Though he’s still out with a groin injury, Jason Garrett is feeling like Leighton Vander Esch may be closer to returning:
Garrett is also optimistic that Leighton Vander Esch can return to practice in the next few days #cowboyswire

The Cowboys did add a veteran safety, it’s former Seahawk, Jeron Johnson :

Scheme and personal familiarity led the Cowboys to Jeron Johnson, who played for Kris Richard in Seattle. “He had him for four years in Seattle, was a role player for them but did a lot of good things,” coach Jason Garrett said. “We feel like he can be... https://t.co/IcfdN1LrVY

It looks like there’s really no chance for Earl Thomas, Johnson took his jersey, trust that I’m only kidding:
Cowboys have some new people. No. 29 S Jeron Johnson, No. 62 C Jacob Ohnesorge and No. 33 S Dominick Sanders.
— Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) August 21, 2018
The Cowboys did get a bit of good news following the rash of injuries, it was a blessing to see Cole Beasley doing some stuff:
Cowboys WR Cole Beasley is taking part in practice today after missing time to a groin injury.
— Kate Hairopoulos (@khairopoulos) August 21, 2018
WR Cole Beasley has returned to practice. He said yesterday “I’m trying to get back to play in this one (Aug. 26), to at least get a few snaps in.”

Glad to see Kavon Frazier out there, he’s going to be needed by this team dealing with issues at the safety position:

For those of you wondering, Tyrone Crawford is getting work inside:
Like Monday, Tyrone Crawford seeing time with the first group as the under tackle and Randy Gregory with the first team at right defensive end. It's more about getting Crawford and Gregory practice time at those spots than something that could happen... https://t.co/4MDPmE44Ky

DeMarcus Lawrence, “looking as only he can look” to borrow another line from the legendary Ric Flair!

It’s a no-brainer at this point, Lance Lenoir has earned a spot on the final 53:

Another practice, another highlight grab from Lance Lenoir

Dak Prescott tried the deep ball again, this time to Michael Gallup but Chidobe Awuzie had other plans:

You know who’s position on the roster is never in doubt, well Ezekiel Elliott, of course!

Blake Jarwin was working with the receivers yesterday and he certainly knows how to catch:

Tyree Robinson is making a late push to win a job at safety:
With all eyes on the safety spot, Tyree Robinson just made a really nice play in 7-on-7. Read Cooper Rush’s eyes all the way on a deep throw to Lance Lenoir, and jumped right in front of it.
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 21, 2018
These next two weeks are gonna be big for him and Kam Kelly #cowboyswire

Randy Gregory is just a little too explosive for Cameron Fleming on this one:

With Gregory and Jaylon Smith on defense, that’s two freakish athletes to build around:

Gregory was with the first team defensive line again today, here’s the depth chart:
First-team defense today: LDE-DeMarcus Lawrence, DT-Antwaun Woods, DT-Tyrone Crawford, RDE-Randy Gregory, WLB-Sean Lee, MLB-Jaylon Smith, SLB-Damien Wilson, CB-Byron Jones, CB-Chidobe Awuzie, S-Jeff Heath, S-Kavon Frazier

Just a few plays later, the defense took it to Ezekiel Elliott:

The defense is just lighting up the offense in this practice. DeMarcus Lawrence has been disruptive. Second-team DL just had consecutive sacks, the last from Taco Charlton.

Speaking of the offensive line, the reserves need as much work as possible:

Michael Gallup is one smooth route runner:

For these highlights, we would be remiss not to thank our buddy Corey, you can find him @MrSelfMade80 on Twitter, he came through with the videos today! He’s a good follow for anyone looking to see what’s happening.
The Cowboys will be off tomorrow but back on the practice field around 11am on Thursday and Friday.
