Most likely Cowboys player to have a breakout game against Houston

Who is it gonna be?

The Dallas Cowboys wrap up their preseason schedule tonight against the Houston Texans. Being the fourth game of the preseason, you can expect a lot of backups and down-the-roster players getting plenty of snaps in the game. We don’t know who exactly will play and for how long, but it’s likely a few players will come out of the game with very strong performances as they make their final push for playing time, or even a roster spot. Here are five candidates for breakout games.

QB Mike White - It hasn’t exactly been a stellar training camp or preseason for the rookie QB. He’s trying to secure a spot as the third QB, but so far he hasn’t shown enough. His play in the second half against the Cardinals backups was the best we’ve seen him, and that was only mediocre, lots of short completions but not a whole lot of true production. He should get plenty of playing time tonight, can he finally put it all together and put some points on the board?

TE Rico Gathers - Sure, some fans may be tired of hearing about him, but his potential is still there. Did you know he leads the team in receiving yards this preseason with 71? He’s also second on the team with eight receptions. If he can have a big night and find the endzone, will that convince the Cowboys to keep him?

RB Darius Jackson - He’s battling with Bo Scarbrough for the third running back spot. Jackson has looked good in preseason with a 4.4 yards per attempt average, and he leads the team with nine receptions. Of course, maybe it’s Scarbrough who has the big night, or even Trey Williams.

CB Charvarius Ward - He’s had a see-saw training camp/preseason. Early on we received glowing reports about his ability to make plays in practices, but he didn’t really shine in the first couple of preseason games. Last week he put in a solid performance, if he follows it up tonight he just might get that fifth corner slot.

DE Dorance Armstrong - Yes, he’s probably going to make the 53-man roster, and his performances in training camp practices have been very good. He hasn’t been bad in the preseason games, but he hasn’t really made any splash plays. We want a sack or two from the rookie, and maybe tonight is the night.

So who you got for tonight? Is it one of these guys, or someone else? Vote in the poll then hit the comments.
