Cowboys training camp 2018: Chidobe Awuzie has a knee/groin injury, but it’s not expected to be serious

Everybody relax.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys-Minicamp Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

One of the more electrifying players so far throughout training camp has been cornerback Chidobe Awuzie.

Chido is making his mark on the position, and he’s impressing everyone around him. Kris Richard referred to Chido as a “cerebral player” and that level of intellect has been apparent over two weeks into camp.

It’s been a different camp for the now-number-24 Chido because a year ago when he was a rookie he was not only wearing number 33, but he was dealing with hamstring issues that plagued him all year. Unfortunately Chido is a little nicked up entering the first week of the preseason.

It’s not like Awuzie was likely going to get any serious playing time on Thursday in San Francisco, but this is at the very least concerning. So far the Cowboys have gone relatively unscathed throughout camp, Chido is one of the first injuries to a starter, if you even want to call it that.

Dallas has shown that they are not afraid to give a guy rest during camp when he’s ailing. As Chido is expected to be a big part of the defense and Kris Richard’s secondary, they’ll likely take every precaution that they can here.

Rest up, Chido. Get yourself right.
