The Cowboys had their annual Blue/White scrimmage today, let’s revisit some of the highlights. Before we get to the live hitting, Jason Garrett was asked a few pertinent questions prior to practice.
Camp standout Chidobe Awuzie limped off the field yesterday but it seems as it’s not too serious:
Jason Garrett confirms it’s a knee injury for Chido Awuzie. Says it doesn’t appear to be a big issue. “We think he’s gonna be alright. We’ll take his situation day-by-day.” #cowboyswire
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 5, 2018
Good news: Chidobe Awuzie is taking part in some individual drills.
— Kate Hairopoulos (@khairopoulos) August 5, 2018
Dan Bailey didn’t exactly finish the 2017 season on a high note which could also be said about his past two practices. Garrett is giving him the benefit of the doubt:
Jason Garrett said there's "no real concern" about Dan Bailey missing four field goals over the last two practices. "We feel good about him going into the start of the season. Feel very confident in what he can do."
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 5, 2018
Jason Garrett suggested today that Dan Bailey’s injury might have thrown him off at the tail end of 2018.
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 5, 2018
Garrett said he’s not concerned about Bailey’s struggles in camp the past few days #cowboyswire pic.twitter.com/e7PNnD4S8n
BTB’s own RJ Ochoa weighed in on Dan Bailey and why we shouldn’t be too concerned at this point:
Before Cowboys traveled to New York on 12/10 last season Dan Bailey hadn't missed a kick (he did miss four games).
— RJ Ochoa (@rjochoa) August 5, 2018
He missed kicks in three of final four games of the season. It was definitely a bad stretch, but it was three games for the game's second-most accurate kicker ever.
Alright onto bigger things and back on the practice field. These guys are going to have a lot of eyes on them, lots of new faces to get used to:

We’re finally going to get to see some tackling!
One thing we'll see today from the Blue and White scrimmage is that the younger players will be tackled to the ground for the exception of the QBs.
— Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) August 5, 2018
Well...we’ll get to see some guys tackle but not everyone:
The Cowboys are rehearsing their pregame warmup prior to Sunday’s practice which will morph into the Blue-White scrimmage for the younger players. No veterans or starters will take part in the scrimmage.

The Cowboys were working with Joe Looney at center with the ones as Travis Frederick was resting:

Starting off the day by giving the ball to Ezekiel Elliott:

Marquez White becomes the latest defensive back to add an interception in camp:

Dak Prescott got into a rhythm early with his receivers:

We’ll continue to monitor the situation but Antwaun Woods may have some hamstring tightness:

“Sit on ‘em, Rod!!” Dak Prescott to Rod Smith for an easy score:

Taco Charlton limped off for a minute but he seems to be okay:

— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) August 6, 2018
Taco Charlton back in. Right on.
— RJ Ochoa (@rjochoa) August 6, 2018
So far Dan Bailey has been good on two PAT’s:

— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) August 6, 2018
The offense is on a tear today both first and second team:
Offense taking charge today. Prescott and Rush with TD throws in team and 7-7 drills.
— Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) August 6, 2018
Let’s get back to the ones for a moment:
Oh my! Touchdown for Zeke:

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 6, 2018
Second team was back in and Lance Lenoir did his thing!
All Lance Lenoir does is ball. Working with the second-team offense, he put down a pretty toe-touch TD on a fade from Cooper Rush. Donovan Olumba played it well, couldn’t do anything about it #cowboyswire
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 6, 2018
The offense dominated the red-zone drills but it was a different story when we went into two-minute drill:
Finally after a period where the offense was bludgeoning the defense, Anthony Brown picks off Dak and takes it in for a PICK-6!
Anthony Brown on the scene. Just picked off Dak on an out route intended for Cole Beasley. Read it beautifully #cowboyswire
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 6, 2018
Back with the two’s, Tavon Austin schools the rookie Charvarius Ward for the TD!:

Helllllloooooooo, Tavon Austin
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 6, 2018
Nice coverage from Charvarius Ward; didn’t matter #cowboyswire pic.twitter.com/irNnoFpAVZ
That would be the best play any offense made because the takeaways came in bunches, starting with the G.O.A.T. Jeff Heath with his vintage tip-drill, this time off Dak:
Jeff Heath INT pic.twitter.com/xBuehIRdQh
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 6, 2018
Tip drill INT. Anthony Brown tipped a long ball intended for Terrance Williams, and it was picked by who? Jeff Heath.
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) August 6, 2018
That’s Dak’s second pick today. #cowboyswire
Much was the same for the second and third team offenses too:

Four 2-minute drills...
— Blogging The Boys (@BloggingTheBoys) August 6, 2018
Two drives with Dak, both ended in interceptions.
One drive with Rush, ended with a TD to Tavon Austin.
One drive with White, ended with an interception.
Dalton Sturm finally got a shot to play quarterback...it didn’t go well.

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 6, 2018
It was a sloppy second half to practice for the offense...so many turnovers and four of which were scores for the defense.
Four picks so far...three are off of deflections. Ward is the latest to be rewarded of a pass from Sturm.
— Blogging The Boys (@BloggingTheBoys) August 6, 2018
To signal the end of practice, Zack Martin decided to field a punt!

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 6, 2018
Zack Martin fielded a punt to save the Cowboys from running post-practice springs so basically Zack Martin is the hero we all deserve
— RJ Ochoa (@rjochoa) August 6, 2018
Though the defense got the last laugh, the Cowboys offense dominated for the first half of the day. It was mainly a lot of sloppiness, badly placed footballs, and mishaps by some receivers that caused such a lopsided ending. There will be lots to clean up before the Cowboys take on the 49ers in their first exhibition game.
