Rico’s attorney has released a statement. In it the tight end apologized to the Cowboys for whatever distraction his arrest may have caused.

Rico Gathers has been one of the most highly-debated players on the Dallas Cowboys for quite some time. His future with the team is going to be determined on Saturday when rosters are trimmed down to 53 players.
Unfortunately for Rico, his future may have been determined on Friday night. According to David Smoak of ESPN Central Texas, Rico was arrested for marijuana possession on Friday night.

Cowboys TE Rico Gathers was arrested around 10 p.m. Friday in Frisco in the 3100 block of Parkwood Blvd.for marijuana possession (less than 2 ounces), according to Frisco PD. He has posted bond and is about to be released from jail.

Cowboys TE Rico Gathers' arrest happened while he was in a parked car. Frisco PD officers were in the area of the 3100 block of Parkwood Blvd. and smelled marijuana coming from a parked vehicle and then arrested Gathers for possession around 10 p.m. Friday.

This is not the way to go about making an NFL roster. Rico Gathers was already on the bubble, this may have burst it for him.
Jerry Jones hinted that Rico could make the 53-man roster on Friday afternoon. Hours later Rico Gathers was arrested for marijuana possession. That is, well, it is not good. The Cowboys were seemingly leaning in the Rico direction in the eleventh hour of roster trimming and then this happens.
