Saturday morning word broke that Rico Gathers had been arrested for marijuana possession on Friday night. That didn’t seem like a good idea for someone trying to make the Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster.
While that certainly wasn’t the best way Rico could go about making the team, it seems like he made it anyway. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Rico is indeed on the Cowboys 53-man roster “as of now.”
It wasn’t a great morning for #Cowboys TE Rico Gathers, who was arrested for marijuana possession. That said, I’m told he’s on the 53-man roster as of now. https://t.co/r3iuqEV5xl

This is the second year in a row that Gathers made the Cowboys 53-man roster, although last year he was placed on injured reserve immediately after. Perhaps the Cowboys have a plan to use Rico offensively, and it appears that they’re willing to look past what happened with him on Friday night.
There’s no denying that Rico Gathers can be an explosive vertical weapon for the Cowboys offensively. Are they planning on utilizing that strength? Let’s all hope so. What do you think about him making the team?
