There’s been a lot happening with the Dallas Cowboys, so much so that defensive tackle David Irving has been forgotten just a bit.
You might remember that Irving is currently 25% of the way finished with his four-game suspension to begin the season (his second in two years). The NFL has certain rules for suspended players, but what made matters all the more interesting with the situation was Irving choosing not to attend training camp with the team.
Irving has stayed somewhat in the public eye while suspended, both with a rant against the NFL’s drug policy and keeping us updated on his physical status on social media.

While the earliest we can see Irving isn’t until Week 5’s date against the Houston Texans apparently the Cowboys facility saw him in person on Tuesday. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer the defensive tackle worked out at the team’s facility.
Irving worked out with the team’s strength and conditioning staff for the first time Tuesday, according to multiple sources. Per terms of the policy, Irving is allowed to work out at the facility and attend meetings but not practice. When he was suspended for the first four games last year for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy, Irving was not allowed to have any contact with the team.
Is Irving still on track to return to the team in early October? We don’t have any official confirmation for now, but if he’s working out he’s conceivably on the right track.
David Irving is an extremely talented football player who’s had a tumultuous offseason. Hopefully all is behind him and things are brighter in the future.
