Roster update: Cowboys add defensive back Treston Decoud to practice squad

There’s a new Cowboy in the secondary.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports

There’s a new defensive back joining the Cowboys, they’ve added Treston Decoud to their practice squad.

The Houston Texans drafted Decoud in the fifth round last year, the Cowboys did not have a fifth-round selection but now have Decoud so it sort of works out. He is the cousin of former Falcons safety Thomas Decoud.

Many have clamored for the Cowboys to go out and get help in the secondary and this is hardly a move that will quiet those requests, but it is help nonetheless.

Decoud’s most recent preseason game came against the Cowboys so Dallas obviously liked what they saw. He’s likely just a practice squad body for now, but the situation at the back end of the secondary certainly is worth monitoring considering Xavier Woods’ injury status.

Will there be another safety joining the Cowboys at all before they square off on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers? That remains to be seen. For now, welcome Treston Decoud!
