Cowboys vs. Panthers: Official list of inactives for the season opener

Here’s who’s out for the game in Carolina.

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The regular season has officially arrived, and we’re inching closer and closer to the first Dallas Cowboys game. The good guys will take on the Carolina Panthers today, and hopefully things go the way we want them to.

If this is your first season of NFL football or just in case you forgot, while rosters have 53 players on them, only 46 are active on gamedays. This means that on a weekly basis there are seven inactive players, and we’ve got the list of who’s out for today’s contest.

Dallas Cowboys inactives

It’s not surprising to see Travis Frederick, Datone Jones, or Xavier Woods on this list as they were officially ruled out on Friday. Rico Gathers certainly headlines the group as he made the 53-man roster the morning after he was arrested for marijuana possession last week. Why would the Cowboys keep him around only to leave him inactive? Who knows.

Carolina Panthers inactives

Panthers tight end Greg Olsen was a bit of a concern on Saturday morning, but that seems to have subsided as he’s ready to go. Former Cowboys workman Efe Obada is inactive, but he’s on the 53-man roster in Carolina which is great to see for him individually. Tackle Daryl Williams and guard Amini Silatolu are both active after suffering training camp injuries.
