Jason Garrett press conference: Momentum is real, but it’s earned

New, comments

The head coach spoke on Wednesday.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

We’re in the middle of a playoff week for the Cowboys and Jason Garrett took to the podium on Wednesday to discuss it all. Here’s what he had to say. (All Garrett answers are paraphrases of what he said and not direct quotes).

The Cowboys can benefit from the Giants game in the same way they do any game

Jason Garrett doesn’t necessarily believe that the Cowboys will benefit more from their performance in New York than they would any other game. He said they made a couple of good plays, but there are obviously a lot of things to clear up. Good to know.

Seattle is a really good team on defense

Shocker here, but Coach Garrett thinks the Seahawks are a good team with good football players. Asked specifically about how the Seahawks have managed to fill the Earl Thomas void Garrett just praised the team as a whole.

The defensive line is on a schedule for what they need

Tyrone Crawford is anticipated to practice more on Wednesday, but overall the Cowboys feel good about what they have going on at their defensive line. Hot Boyz.

Xavier Su’a-Filo is not expected to practice on Wednesday

We’ll see how Dallas handles left guard.

Amari Cooper is on the Cowboys this go around against the Seahawks

Obviously Amari Cooper is one of the reasons that the Cowboys turned their season around, but he was not on the team earlier in the year when they played the Seahawks. Jason Garrett isn’t ready to take any bait but he is aware that Amari’s a good player who can help the Cowboys now.

Jason Garrett believes in momentum, but also that it’s earned

The subject of momentum has been a popular one lately, and Coach Garrett definitely believes in it. He talked about how you have to earn it both in life and in football. Wise words.

Kris Richard will not interview for jobs before the playoff game

The NFL world has seen Kris Richard’s name be linked to a few head coaching opportunities and Jason Garrett noted that he will not be doing any interviews with teams before the Cowboys playoff game against the Seahawks. He also noted that he cannot speak to whether or not Dallas has given other teams permission to talk to Richard. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport did report though that Richard is expected to interview with teams on Sunday following the game (and hopeful win).

Connor Williams has done a really nice job

We’ve seen the Cowboys use their rookie offensive lineman at a variety of positions across the season and this is a point that Jason Garrett stressed. They like what they see. He could be important this week.

Blake Jarwin got the outstanding player of the game award for his big day

The NFL announced that Blake Jarwin was announced as the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week after his big performance in New York, and the Cowboys gave him some accolades as well. Jason Garrett said that Jarwin got the championship belt award that the Cowboys associate with the best player from a given game. Good on Blake!

We’re only three days away from Saturday’s playoff matchup between the Cowboys and Seahawks. Let’s hope for some nice practices and good vibes between now and then.
