For a team that isn’t even three weeks into their offseason, there sure has been a lot of doubt swirling regarding the Dallas Cowboys.
To be totally fair, that’s the way things work with the Cowboys. People talk. There are things said, ideas thrown out, and often times it’s just stuff thrown at a wall. The reality, though, is that we’re talking about a team who fired a prominent position already, their former offensive coordinator Scott Linehan.
As of the moment the Cowboys still have the vacancy sign lit up at OC. There’s speculation about who could fill that role, but we’ve almost reached Super Bowl Sunday and there is still no answer. There are only questions which is possibly why Jerry Jones made a surprise appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Wednesday afternoon in order to address a few issues.
It seems as if Jerry doesn’t want the Cowboys announcing their offensive coordinator to step on the toes of the Super Bowl (Jerry wants to be humble since when?) but he did announce that an announcement is on the way. Again, this is the Dallas Cowboys.
Jerry Jones while talking about Kellen Moore on @1053thefan: "Jason's going to be making an announcement here real quickly, but make no mistake about it, he’s going to be a key guy in what play is run on that football field. By key, probably have the ultimate responsibility."

Jerry Jones on Jason Garrett: “We’ve got a coach that basically now has a lot of experience. We want to benefit from it. He is a great safety net for everything that we’re going to do with a young staff like we’ve got. I think we’re in an ideal position.”

There were murmurings before the Cowboys season ended that the organization would approach Jason Garrett about an extension to his current contract over the course of the offseason. That hasn’t been the case so far, it’s still early to be fair, and Garrett even said in his press conference to close the season that neither he nor his representation had spoken to the Jones family about such matters.
2019 is the final year of Garrett’s current deal which makes Jerry’s wording of being in “an ideal position” interesting. If the Cowboys truly are satisfied with where they are with their current head coach, then why would they be putting off any talk of an extension for him? That doesn’t fit their modus operandi.
For now it seems all but certain that Kellen Moore will be the team’s offensive coordinator. If Garrett does coach the season on the last year of his deal it will be an awfully precarious situation considering it would be Moore’s first as a coordinator in the NFL. That’s a scary roll of the dice, but maybe that’s the ideal position after all.
