After two straight defeats, the Dallas Cowboys need a win in the worst possible way. Fortunately, they should be able to get one when they face the 0-4 New York Jets on Sunday. In the NFL, you can’t take anything for granted but if the Cowboys can’t beat a hapless Jets squad, any playoff ambitions they have will got right out the window.
The Cowboys offense is having no problems piling up the yards but critical turnovers and penalties are halting their efforts to be elite. If Dak Prescott and company could clean up their self-inflicted wounds, they would be a juggernaut. Instead, they are a confounding team that looks like it should dominate but does not against quality competition. The Jets aren’t quality competition so there are no excuses this week.
The Cowboys defense was a big problem last week. It was shredded by the Packers running game, a running game that previously had been wholly unimpressive. The Jets will get Sam Darnold back which should give a boost to their passing game but they do not have a lot of elite weapons outside of Le’Veon Bell. If the Cowboys defense doesn’t impose it’s will this week, including picking up a turnover or two, then serious questions will be raised about the ability of this team to win the NFC East.
