2019 NFL Power Rankings Week 7: Doubt is everywhere concerning the Dallas Cowboys

We are almost halfway through the NFL season (not quite, but almost) and amazingly we’re now at the point where one game separates the Dallas Cowboys from their bye week. Time flies.

Things have not gone too well for the Cowboys as they’ve lost three games in a row. A lot of people are starting to doubt them and that’s evidenced pretty strongly in the latest batch of power rankings.

1 - New England Patriots (LW: 1)

Time is a flat circle.

2 - San Francisco 49ers (LW: 5)

San Francisco has made a lot of doubters look silly, myself included. They are among the league’s elite six weeks in.

3 - Houston Texans (LW: 9)

It’s possible that the win at Arrowhead was the most impressive in their franchise’s history.

4 - Seattle Seahawks (LW: 6)

Russell Wilson is the league’s MVP at the moment.

5 - New Orleans Saints (LW: 2)

What they’re doing without Drew Brees is so impressive.

6 - Kansas City Chiefs (LW: 3)

It will be fascinating to see how the world reacts to them dropping two in a row.

7 - Baltimore Ravens (LW: 11)

Lamar Jackson remains amazing.

8 - Green Bay Packers (LW: 4)

A flag was just thrown in their favor.

9 - Minnesota Vikings (LW: 15)

Kirk Cousins... balled out?! Don’t tell Zach Brown.

10 - Buffalo Bills (LW: 12)

These wagons are a playoff team, they just have the misfortune of being in the AFC East.

11 - Carolina Panthers (LW: 17)

Watching Cam Newton return will be interesting. This team doesn’t quit.

12 - Los Angeles Rams (LW: 8)

This is the worst that the Rams have looked in the Sean McVay era. Jared Goff looks... not good.

13 - Detroit Lions (LW: 14)

Good enough to beat the Packers, not good enough to beat the referees.

14 - Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 7)

Getting routed by Kirk Cousins is never a good thing.

15 - Dallas Cowboys (LW: 10)

They lost to the Jets. The Jets. THE JETS.

16 - Chicago Bears (LW: 16)

That defense is going to keep them competitive.

17 - Indianapolis Colts (LW: 13)

Bye weeks keep teams at relatively the same spot.

18 - Cleveland Browns (LW: 18)

Baker Mayfield may be the biggest individual disappointment of the season. It’s way too early to make a decision on his career, but he hasn’t been good this year.

19 - Pittsburgh Steelers (LW: 25)

A road win with a backup quarterback is impressive.

20 - New York Giants (LW: 21)

The first loss of the Daniel Jones era. It was the Patriots, interested to see them again.

21 - Oakland Raiders (LW: 20)

Bye week chill.

22 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 22)

It’s almost as if Bruce Arians is overrated.

23- Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 23)

What are they going to do when Nick Foles returns?

24 - Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 19)

This was a disaster of a performance by both the team and home fans.

25 - New York Jets (LW: 30)

Sam Darnold looked good. Blah.

26 - Denver Broncos (LW: 26)

Vic Fancio’s squad is finally getting it together! Maybe?

27 - Arizona Cardinals (LW: 27)

Barely getting a win over a bad Falcons team isn’t the most impressive of all things, but the Cardinals are still young.

28- Tennessee Titans (LW: 24)

Marcus Mariota benched. Those four years flew by.

29 - Cincinnati Bengals (LW: 29)

Same as always.

30 - Atlanta Falcons (LW: 28)

Dumpster fire.

31 - Washington Redskins (LW: 31)

Same.

32 - Miami Dolphins (LW: 32)

Same-er.

NFL.com: 11th (LW: 8th)

So it begins.

From 3-0 to 3-3. Life comes at you fast. We saw a lot of raging Texans (the people of Texas, not the football team in Houston) calling for Jason Garrett’s head after a 24-22 loss to the previously winless Jets at the Meadowlands. To which we say: R-E-L-A-X. The Cowboys right now are a beat-up team that went on the road and narrowly lost to a Jets squad that’s far more competent than its win-loss record indicated. (Going from Luke Falk to Sam Darnold has a way of flipping the script for an offense.) Dallas actually showed impressive resolve in nearly wiping out a 21-3 first-half deficit -- Dak Prescott came within a failed 2-point conversion of tying the game in the final minute of regulation. The Cowboys might not be the 14-2 juggernaut some fans expected at one point, but they remain on solid footing in the NFC East despite their losing streak.

ESPN: 12th (LW: 8th)

The worldwide leader has the Cowboys safely in the top half.

The Cowboys have five takeaways on the season (two interceptions, three fumbles). Rod Marinelli and Kris Richard have typically had defenses that can take the ball away, but this group just simply hasn’t done it enough. The Cowboys are not pressuring the quarterback to create hurried throws. They don’t poke the ball away. The last time a Cowboys defensive back had more than four interceptions was in 2010. As a result, the offense does not have many opportunities to work with a short field. Nothing is coming easy for this team at the moment. -- Todd Archer

Bleacher Report: 17th (LW: 7th)

Not a top half team according to B/R.

With Dallas now mired in a full-on tailspin and head coach Jason Garrett in the final year of his contract, speculation has ramped up regarding Garrett’s future in Dallas. Team owner Jerry Jones indicated after the game that he doesn’t blame Garrett for the losing streak and isn’t planning to make any changes at this time.

We’ll see if he still feels that way after the Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday night. The way Dallas is playing, a fourth straight loss is a real possibility.

Sports Illustrated: 18th (LW: 12th)

An even lower ranking. Not surprising.

USA Today: 19th (LW: 13th)

Keep on scrolling down.

Troubling aspect of latest loss was Zeke Elliott’s solid day. First time Dallas has lost in 13 games when RB’s posted 150 or more yards from scrimmage.

CBS Sports: 17th (LW: 9th)

The doubt is everywhere.

So much for the idea that they would run away with the NFC East and be a power team in the NFC. They’ve struggled badly in losing the last three weeks.
