It’s no surprise to hear that Tyron Smith and La’el Collins weren’t at 100% given that their statuses were already well-known. Something that did pop up a little bit out of nowhere was Leighton Vander Esch being absent. According to the Dallas Morning News he has a knee issue.
Leighton Vander Esch has a knee issue a source tells @dmn_cowboys as the reaso he’s missing practice today.— Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) October 9, 2019
Vander Esch did not have a great game last week against the Green Bay Packers and while he hasn’t performed like his 2018 self so far this season, he’s essential to the Cowboys defense. Sean Lee is still on the team so in a pinch he could fill in, but a potential injury to LVE would could be an issue.
We’ll see if we hear anything more when the official injury report comes out later on Wednesday afternoon. For now though just know that there’s something going on with the Wolf Hunter.
Update: 1:35pm ET
Apparently Leighton Vander Esch’s absence can be explained more by him being sick than him having a knee injury. That’s good to see.
An update on LVE the knee isn’t much of an issue. He’s sick and that’s the main reason why he’s out more than anything.— Calvin Watkins (@calvinwatkins) October 9, 2019
Hopefully he feels better soon.
