The Dallas Cowboys are 5-4 and holding on to a tie-breaker lead in the NFC East. Welcome to life in the middle of November. Things are always dicy as Thanksgiving Day approaches and when you’re eating turkey you’ll be watching both the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys. This week you’ll get to see them both play in the same game as the former is visiting the latter on Sunday afternoon.
Dak Prescott is coming off of one of the finest games of his career in last week’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He found ways to consistently connect with Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and Randall Cobb (finally!), and if the Cowboys want to win they’re going to have to find a way to continue this. It wouldn’t hurt to get Ezekiel Elliott going to a legitimate degree either.
As for the Detroit Lions they were without quarterback Matthew Stafford (who went to Highland Park High School in Dallas... he also played Little League baseball with Clayton Kershaw!) last week in their loss to the Chicago Bears, but it’s possible that he could return this week. If he does he’ll have Kenny Golladay to help make life good for his offense while Trey Flowers leads the Lions defense.
Dallas and Detroit have met in some intense games over the years, including the first playoff win of Jason Garrett’s tenure with the Cowboys, the 2014 Wildcard Round. If either of these teams wants to be in this year’s playoffs they’ll have to win. It’s that type of game.
