The Dallas Cowboys spent five years trying to handle Odell Beckham Jr. and from a win-loss perspective, they were pretty successful. That was when Beckham was a member of the New York Giants and last offseason when the G-Men traded him to the Cleveland Browns, many Cowboys fans celebrated. OBJ is a fun player and having him in the division is obviously not ideal, feeling free to root for players of that caliber or at the very least enjoy their skills is far more preferable.
What if Beckham ended up with the Cowboys at some point in the future, though? Speaking of the future, Beckham’s future in his current home seems a bit cloudy as it was reported by Jay Glazer on Sunday that the receiver has told teams to “come get” him.
On Monday, the world was left to figure out what the offseason could bring for Beckham. Yahoo’s Charles Robinson wrote about this and included an interesting nugget. Apparently people close to OBJ hope that he could someday wind up with the Cowboys.
What any of this means for Beckham’s future is a whole other matter. He has an opinionated circle of friends and family that surrounds him. Some still speak in hopeful tones about him potentially ending up with the Dallas Cowboys, which would put him in close proximity to his parents. Others continue to pine for a road that ends with the New Orleans Saints, the hometown favorite for many of Beckham’s family and friends who have surrounded him since he was born in Louisiana.
The Cowboys just traded for a star wide receiver only a little over a year ago when they sent their first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for Amari Cooper. Obviously he needs a new deal but it makes sense for the Cowboys to give him one. With that happening in parallel of Michael Gallup’s development, it’s hard to see how Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cowboys makes sense.
Of course, more impossible things have happened in NFL history. Would you even want OBJ?
