Things are in utter disarray with the Dallas Cowboys at the moment.
They have lost three straight games, are 6-7, and the status of Jason Garrett as their head coach seems more cemented than ever, cemented in that he won’t be back.
Of course none of that is known right now and is merely speculation. Until Jason Garrett is officially no longer the head coach of the Cowboys nothing can be confirmed, but that doesn’t mean that things aren’t happening or being talked about.
Following the team’s loss to the Chicago Bears a report surfaced from NFL Network that the Cowboys have a “very real” interest in former The Ohio State coach Urban Meyer.
Jerry Jones says Jason Garrett will remain the coach but I can confirm a very real interest in Urban Meyer. In fact, I'm told Stephen Jones spoke with him recently. Lincoln Riley remains a strong candidate & file this name as a possibility Clemson OC Tony Elliott per sources.

NFL Network’s Jane Slater notes that not only do the Cowboys have interest in Meyer, but Stephen Jones apparently spoke with him recently. The report also indicates that Oklahoma Sooners coach Lincoln Riley is an option, the Jones group got to know him well when he was recruiting Stephen’s son who ultimately went to Arkansas.
The final name listed in this report is Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott. You’ll note that all three of these coaches, while Meyer is not currently employed, come from the collegiate ranks. Things around the NFL seem to be trending in the direction that college football has fluctuated in, why wouldn’t the Cowboys go get someone who has had lots of success there?
.@ColinCowherd to Urban Meyer in October: Have you been called by the Cowboys?
— RJ Ochoa (@rjochoa) November 27, 2019
Urban: I have not.
Colin: But if you would have been... You’d have spent a couple of days with it?
Urban: Sure. Absolutely. Absolutely. That one? Yes.

Meyer and Elliott have both experienced winning National Championships in the College Football Playoff era, Riley has come close and done a great job at both developing quarterbacks (Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and now Jalen Hurts) and offenses in general.
Urban Meyer has already seen his name connected with the Cowboys coaching job that isn’t even technically available at the moment, plus he has the best odds to land the gig if it ultimately does come open.
Time will tell if the Cowboys are even in a position where they are looking for a new head coach. If that does become the case, would any of these three be your choice?
