Cowboys rumors: Update on Robert Quinn makes it seem like nothing is happening any time soon

The Robert Quinn situation could take a while to work itself out.

The NFL owners meetings are happening out in Phoenix which means important people throughout the league are having important discussions.

It’s often here where deals are struck up, or at least the framework for potential negotiations begins. This is interesting for the Cowboys these days as they are somewhat in discussions with the Miami Dolphins for defensive end Robert Quinn.

We saw the Cowboys host Quinn on a visit last week, the tricky thing is he’s still under contract with the Dolphins. Miami has openly said that they’re down to trade him, but teams have to reach agreement on trade value and Quinn’s people have to agree to terms with his new team. He’ll likely get a contract extension wherever he signs, so discussions have to take place.

While Quinn is not officially a member of the Cowboys yet, there are many people who believe it’s only a matter of time. He’s reportedly been linked to the New Orleans Saints by way of visiting them as well, but an update on Monday shows that things are still very much up in the air.

Chris Grier is the Dolphins GM, and it does seem like he’s extremely open to Quinn finding a new home. The whole “we’ll keep him if we have to” bit seems like a tactic to imply that they’re not going to give him up for just anything, a lot of time has gone by since word of them being willing to move him first surfaced.

We’ll see what ultimately happens with Quinn and the Cowboys or whoever else. For now it looks like it’s going to be more of the same, lots of waiting and waiting.
