The 2019 Dallas Cowboys draft class was finalized on Saturday, and there are eight new players that will be trying to make this team better (UDFAs too).
With the draft in the rearview mirror we now shift our focus to something extremely important regarding the rookies... what jersey numbers they will wear.
Full disclosure - this actually isn’t important, but it’s a lot of fun to discuss and kick the can around about. The mothership has listed the rookie class with their new numbers on their website, in my own personal opinion a lot of these fell flat.
- Trysten Hill..................79
- Connor McGovern......66
- Tony Pollard...................36
- Michael Jackson..........33
- Joe Jackson.................56
- Donovan Wilson..........37
- Mike Weber..................40
- Jalen Jelks....................74
It’s important to note that a lot of numbers aren’t currently available at the moment. For example literally every number in the 90s is currently taken. There’s also only one number in the 20s that’s free (23), perhaps a lot of these guys are just going to wait until more become available and switch.
Of all the new Cowboys there is perhaps nobody more displeased with his new number than Jalen Jelks. A rookie being assigned 74 is typically a kiss of death of sorts as there’s no way they’re going to be allowed to wear that during the regular season. Of course, Dorance Armstrong was given it last year and more than survived, although he had to change once he made the roster.
What do you think? Good? Awful? Somewhere in between?
