Some of the biggest contracts that the Dallas Cowboys have handed out in recent memory have come at training camp.
Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Zack Martin all saw their deals get done while the team was in Oxnard. With everyone in one place, plus throw in some agents, and it makes sense that groups would sit down and hammer out a contract. Such is life.
These days the Cowboys have a lot of options when it comes to contracts to sort out. Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, Ezekiel Elliott, and Byron Jones are all waiting on extensions with the club so there is a lot to figure out when the team migrates west. It seems as if some figuring out could happen sooner rather than later.
NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported on Wednesday that the Cowboys are “optimistic” that a deal will get done with Prescott while the team is at training camp. It’s a big deal for a franchise quarterback to get a deal so it makes sense for the team to be focused on this. They’ve already exchanged offers with Prescott’s camp over the offseason.
For what it’s worth, Slater also reported that she believes Ezekiel Elliott will be on the team’s flight to Oxnard, even though he obviously wants a new deal as well. Perhaps once the team settles into their westward command center they’ll do all they can to knock out multiple contract extensions. It seems things do begin with Prescott, though.
