Jason Garrett press conference: Amari Cooper still not practicing, other injury updates

One thing that wasn’t mentioned, but is starting to float out of Oxnard, is that the Cowboys are pretty banged up at tight end. Blake Jarwin (foot) and Dalton Schultz (ankle) are both dealing with injuries that are going to keep them out of practice for the foreseeable future. Jarwin and Schultz are both guys who are pretty much locks to make the final 53-man roster, so these injuries likely won’t hurt their chances to make the roster, but will make things tough in practice over the next week or two.

With Jarwin and Schultz down with injuries, the only tight ends on the roster are Jason Witten, Codey McElroy, and newly acquired Marcus Lucas. Rico Gathers was released late last week, and has since been picked up by the Cleveland Browns. With Jason Witten still getting veteran days off, and Marcus Lucas still learning the system, the Cowboys will likely need to bring in at least one tight end this week to join the team.

The Cowboys did work out former offensive tackle Jake Fisher last week, who has now made a position change to tight end, so that is a name to keep an eye on.

Either way, the Cowboys will need to add a tight end as soon as possible, to help get through practices and the next few preseason games. We will be sure to keep you updated on the potential targets as more information becomes available.
