This weekend marks the first preseason game of 2019 for the Dallas Cowboys which means that we’ll be watching the first of four games in which critical roster spots will be earned.
There are few spots that are truly up for grabs and the team has plenty of talent scratching and clawing to make their case. One of these spots could be the at the outset of the defensive end group, the Hot Boyz adding new members would be fun.
One of the contenders in this department is rookie defensive end Joe Jackson out of Miami. Of course, Jackson isn’t the only Hurricane that the Cowboys drafted, heck he isn’t even the only Hurricane named Jackson. While the jokes were fun when Cowboys fans first learned of him now the talk concerning his game is only serious, especially when it’s coming from Jerry Jones.

Jerry Jones: I was particularly impressed with Jackson our defensive end from Miami. His style, if you will, is that he would run till every play stopped. He would run the ball down. And that’s the way he played at Miami, when we put these pads on and he did get to hit, he showed us the thing that we saw about him at Miami.
Jackson was the first name that Jerry Jones specified when giving his thoughts on the blue and white scrimmage, a nice hat tip for the first-year pass rusher. If the Cowboys are able to get something legitimate out of Joe, let alone something special, it would be quite the impressive feat for Will McClay and the rest of the group (what else is new?).
To be fair though the team’s first unofficial depth chart has Jackson listed behind fellow rookie, Jalen Jelks, who the team took in the seventh round. Nobody should read too much into the depth chart that’s preceding the first preseason game, but the competition could be stiff.
Watch out for Joe Jackson. Jerry Jones is definitely going to.
