It’s Friday of game week, the final time to hear from Jason Garrett. Coach met with the media to discuss the team and the upcoming game against Washington. (All answers are paraphrased and not actual quotes).
Zeke is in shape
Jason Garrett said that Ezekiel Elliott is getting more and more comfortable but that he looked good from the start. He didn’t feel there was a noticeable difference between the first week and this week and thought he played well in the game.
Tyrone Crawford looked good
Crawford did fine in practice yesterday according to coach and is expected to practice on Friday. Tavon Austin is not.
What is Crawford’s best position or is it just his versatility?
Coach loves Crawford’s versatility. He said it was so important that Crawford can chew up reps at multiple positions and do it at a high level. Said he can play inside or outside and in the nickel as well as base downs, called him a valuable asset.
Depth on the defensive line?
Jason Garrett noted that the Cowboys have been spending resources in an effort to rebuild both their offensive and defensive lines and that it’s been a process that has shown results they’re proud of. He noted you only have so many premium draft resources to use so they have had to bring guys in using other methods over the rebuild time, but that they have good depth now.
Trysten Hill’s progress
The head coach said that the team’s first draft pick continues to work hard and that he is a young player. He noted he is understanding more and more about what they expect from him at practice and he is learning more techniques and the defensive scheme. Coach said his approach has been excellent.
Robert Quinn
The Cowboys won’t get their new defensive end back until next week, but Jason Garrett is clearly excited. He noted that the team is excited to see what Quinn brings as he’s a player who has been a very good defender over the course of his career.
Sean Lee
The General did not practice last Friday and Jason Garrett said that the team is going to hold to that routine again this week. Luke Gifford and Mike Weber will also be on the sidelines for practice.
Cedrick Wilson
It’s possible that the Cowboys could have to call up Cedrick Wilson this week with Austin’s injury and Jason Garrett said that they really like what the second-year receiver offers.
