On Thursday night it was reported that the Miami Dolphins could be interested in trading away second-year defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. Ever since, speculation has run rampant about where he might go and how much it will cost to obtain him.
Fitzpatrick was a first-round pick just one year ago but with the Dolphins in such massive re-building mode they’re selling everything they can in order to load up for serious draft capital. Dallas also has a potential trade piece in Taco Charlton, but could a Fitzpatrick trade actually happen?
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan on Friday and was asked about this. You know that Stephen isn’t going to come out and give us any legitimate information on this, but it was interesting that he did in fact say the team has had contact with Miami (he also added that they’re constantly talking to other teams).
Stephen said ‘yea’ when asked if he’s had communication with the Miami Dolphins in the last 24 hours. He also said he talks to other teams all the time. #MinkahWatch

It’s also definitely worth mentioning that Fitzpatrick and Charlton share an agent so there is unquestionably a common denominator if you’re looking to get your hopes up. It would definitely take more than a third-year former first-round pass rusher that’s disappointed to this point for the Dolphins to do this trade, so the Cowboys would likely have to toss in something extra.
Dallas hosts Miami next week so if a trade did ultimately come to pass between them for Charlton and/or Fitzpatrick it would make for quite the awkward situation next Sunday; however, if it gets done that’s ultimately what matters.
