Report: Cowboys to place Connor McGovern on IR, calling up Jordan Chunn from practice squad

Moves are being made.

It’s been rough start for the rookie third-rounder out of Penn State. After injuring his pectoral muscle earlier in the offseason, the Cowboys were hoping to get Connor McGovern back to practice leading up to the fourth-preseason game. In his first practice back, McGovern felt soreness in that same pec muscle, and was taken out of practice, and has yet to get back on the field.

The Cowboys announced today that McGovern will be placed on injured reserve with a pectoral strain. Since McGovern did start the season on the 53-man roster, McGovern will be able to return to the team off of IR after eight weeks, if he’s healthy enough to contribute.

In a corresponding move, the Cowboys promoted running back Jordan Chunn from the practice squad to help fill out the Cowboys running back depth chart with Ezekiel Elliott still away from the team. Chunn carried the football 16 times, for 49 yards, and caught nine passes for 56 yards and a touchdowns over the course of the preseason.

To fill out the practice squad, the Cowboys signed 6’3” wide receiver Ventell Bryant. Bryant, an undrafted free agent rookie out of Temple, caught 14 passes for 154 yards for the Bengals this preseason. The undrafted receiver brings intriguing size to the Cowboys practice squad, something the team currently lacks with their current receivers.

What do you think of Chunn being promoted to the 53?
