It’s here. We made it. The 2019 NFL regular season is about to begin.
The offseason lasted forever and while it brought us landmark events like Tiger Woods winning The Masters and Game of Thrones finally ending on HBO, there’s nothing more cherished than football season in our lives. Why? The Dallas Cowboys, of course.
2019 brings with it lofty expectations for the Cowboys. Last season was quite dramatic as the team got off to a 3-4 start before they traded a first-round draft pick to the Oakland Raiders in order to acquire Amari Cooper. Joining both Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, Cooper became the third leg of the newest version of “The Triplets” to play in the Dallas metroplex.
There are other big players on this roster, though. Dallas handed out long-term extensions to DeMarcus Lawrence and Jaylon Smith this offseason. When you put those two next to a second-year Leighton Vander Esch, it’s fair to expect big things from this defense.
All eyes will be on the team’s offense this Sunday though, and on new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Can the first-year coordinator return to this team to serious success on the side of the ball that scores points? We’ll see.
Week 1’s opponent is of course the New York Giants, and while there is no longer an Odell Beckham Jr. on their team, there is still Saquon Barkley, Eli Manning, and for the first time in this rivalry Daniel Jones.
The latest chapter of the Cowboys and Giants rivalry will be a fun one set to go down this Sunday afternoon. One team will start the season undefeated and the other will begin in a hole.
