Where there’s smoke there is often fire, and we’re starting to get some smoke with regards to the Ezekiel Elliott contract extensions. A lot of smoke.
Just before lunch on Tuesday it was reported by Pro Football Talk that the Cowboys are closing in on an extension with their star running back... a six-year deal worth $90M.
More likely than not, the Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliot will get a new deal done today. The rumors of a done deal already are commencing.
The chatter as of this moment in knowledgeable league circles is that the team and the player have come to terms on a six-year, $90 million extension. A source with directly knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the deal is not yet done, but that it’s close.
Shortly after this, ESPN reported that the Cowboys want to get a deal done with Elliott in the next 24 hours so that he can practice on Wednesday. That lines up with all of the other rumors swirling around at the moment.
Buckle up, everyone. This could be happening soon.
Update: 12:25pm ET
Ben Rogers from 105.3 The Fan said shortly after this report that according to his source a deal has been agreed to in principle between the Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott and that a press conference is scheduled for Wednesday.
