Poll: Does Ron Rivera landing the Washington head coaching job make you nervous as a Cowboys fan?

There is a new man at the helm of a division rival.

Things remain the same with the Dallas Cowboys and their head coaching situation, the same in that there has been no formal announcement that anything is going to be different. We all continue to wait.

Meanwhile, though, there are other NFL teams making moves, and one of them is within the NFC East. The Washington Redskins fired head coach Jay Gruden way back before the 2019 season was even halfway over so they had quite a jump on finding a new coach to lead them into 2020. That search is over.

Washington officially hired another coach that got the ax in 2019, Ron Rivera. Of course Rivera was fired by the Carolina Panthers with about a month left in the regular season which also gave him an advantage on figuring out his plan for the new decade. He and Washington found each other and now they’re going to try and make it work in the nation’s capital.

Rivera has already announced that former Cowboys player Jack Del Rio will be his defensive coordinator in Washington and there are obviously a lot more pieces that have yet to fall into place for them. Washington has been a disaster of an organization for so long which has been an advantage for their division rivals, one the Cowboys never took past the Divisional Round, but in firing Bruce Allen they are clearly devoted towards moving in another direction in a lot of ways.

Ron Rivera had a run of success in Carolina and even took the Panthers to the Super Bowl at the conclusion of the 2015 season. They lost to the Denver Broncos, but the offense and defense that they had that season were remarkable (Cam Newton was the league’s MVP) so he’s certainly capable of doing something significant.
