Stephen Jones notes signing Dak Prescott is priority number one for Cowboys, Amari Cooper is two

The Cowboys have two stars needing new contracts, but they have to start with one of them.

The first of a few offseason checkpoints is underway for the Dallas Cowboys as they are currently doing their homework at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL. As the Cowboys are preparing for the 2020 season, they are also available for some comment and that was the case on Tuesday with Stephen Jones. Speaking to reporters in the area, Jones noted that getting a deal done with Dak Prescott is the top priority of the offseason for America’s Team. And if you had any question as to what number two is he answered that as well - Amari Cooper.

It makes sense that the contract for the team’s quarterback would be the most important loose end that the Cowboys need to tie up over the next few months as without that, they would be up a creek, figuratively speaking. Amari Cooper is also extremely valuable as he provides help for the quarterback to reach his highest potential.

Dallas had the opportunity to get deals done with both Prescott and Cooper an offseason ago but ultimately did not. They did land extensions for Ezekiel Elliott, Jaylon Smith, and La’el Collins, but this day was going to come. Prescott and cooper need to be paid.

It’s time to open up the pocket book.
