The Dallas Cowboys are in sore need of a win and they are equally in need of healthy players. There are a number of starting-caliber players for the Cowboys on injured reserve at the moment, although due to the way that Covid-19 protocols work in 2020 being on IR is hardly the heavy thing that it is in normal seasons. Still though the Cowboys have had a bevy of players unavailable to them, notably on defense and along the offensive line. Football is a battle of attrition, as they say.
Dallas is set to host the New York Giants (who’s offensive coordinator is their former coach) on Sunday afternoon but before that happens they have made a few roster moves to reflect where they are at as a team.
Anthony Brown is back, Francis Bernard is on the 53, Joe Looney and Tyron Smith are on injured reserve
Morale is rather low surrounding the Cowboys right now given what became official on Friday - all-world left tackle Tyron Smith will undergo season-ending surgery and is therefore unable to the team until 2021 at the earliest.
Smith is the second starting tackle for the Cowboys to be lost for the year, and a week ago starting center Joe Looney was injured on the team’s first offensive play. The club has placed both of them on injured reserve, Looney has a sprained MCL and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
On Saturday the @dallascowboys:
— Dallas Cowboys Public Relations (@DallasCowboysPR) October 10, 2020
- Activated CB Anthony Brown (Purdue) from Reserve/Injured
- Signed LB Francis Bernard (Utah) to the active roster
- Elevated C Marcus Henry (Boise State) and DB Stephen Parker (Oklahoma) from the practice squad
Saturday @dallascowboys transactions, cont.:
— Dallas Cowboys Public Relations (@DallasCowboysPR) October 10, 2020
- Placed C Joe Looney (Wake Forest) and T Tyron Smith (Southern California) on Reserve/Injured
This opened up two spots on the 53-man roster for the Cowboys and they have been filled. Dallas has brought back a played from injured reserve for the first time this season in cornerback Anthony Brown, and they have officially promoted rookie undrafted linebacker Francis Bernard to the roster as well.
While it’s great to see the Cowboys get some defensive talent back (not to mention a likely starter in Brown) they are also in need of bodies along the offensive line. They have promoted center Marcus Henry as well as defensive back Stephen Parker from the practice squad.
It is going to be a long season in many ways and we are only a quarter of the way in. Winning would go a long way to boost the energy surrounding the Cowboys and they’ll have an opportunity to do so in about 24 hours.
