Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott suffered a right ankle compound fracture and dislocation

Devastating news for the Cowboys QB and the franchise.

NFL: New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys won on Sunday afternoon, but it was a costly win to say the least. In the third quarter, the worst possible on-field thing happened when quarterback Dak Prescott went down with an injury. It immediately did not look good.

As you saw, Dak was carted off amid tears and with teammates, opponents, and everyone around him visibly shaken. The injury seemed to be season-ending at first glance and we now know the exact nature of it. He suffered a right ankle compound fracture and dislocation.

This is obviously the worst news possible for the Cowboys as far as their on-field aspirations for this season are concerned. They are technically in first place in the NFC East but now face the difficult challenge of moving forward without the most important player on their team. The Cowboys will have to rely on Andy Dalton for the rest of the year, but at least they have an experienced backup quarterback with some level of previous success.

Dak was playing this season on the franchise tag, so his negotiations with the Cowboys this offseason will be even more complicated based on his recovery.

All Cowboys fans are rooting for a speedy and full recovery.
