The Dallas Cowboys will play their first game without Dak Prescott in some time this week, and needless to say, it will be a jarring experience for all. QB1 is out for the season along with the likes of Gerald McCoy, Tyron Smith, and La’el Collins. It will be absolutely vital that other leaders and contributors like Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, Jaylon Smith, DeMarcus Lawrence step up and try to move the team forward.
Of course, the true test has now arrived for Mike McCarthy. This is far from the squad that he originally signed up to coach, but that’s life in the NFL. We are going to learn a lot about him and his staff over the course of the next few months.
The Arizona Cardinals present the latest challenge for America’s Team and they will be bringing one of the greatest players in Texas high school football history with them in quarterback Kyler Murray. Kliff Kingsbury will likely want to shine in his own return to the Lone Star State and has plenty of offensive wizardry to showcase on Monday Night Football.
For what it’s worth, we have sort of seen this movie before. Last time that the Cardinals visited the Cowboys (2014), it was the first time that Dallas had to start their new backup quarterback, a week after he finished a game against an NFC East rival, one who was in his first year with the team after leaving an Ohio-based NFL team with orange as a dominant uniform color. It was Brandon Weeden then and is Andy Dalton now.
That game ended in a Cowboys loss. Here’s hoping this one is different.
