Here we go. The first game without Dak Prescott since he was drafted back in 2016. Prescott has been an iron man but not even he could play through what happened to his ankle this past Sunday. So begins the season of Andy Dalton. The Cowboys backup QB has now been elevated to the top spot and his play will largely determine how the rest of the season goes for the Cowboys.
It’s not like he won’t have help. The Cowboys have one of the best arsenals of skill players in the NFL. Ezekiel Elliott, and the three-headed monster at wide receiver (Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb) make it much easier for Dalton to put points on the board. He does have a patchwork offensive line to deal with, but they have played better than they have a right to.
What could really help the Cowboys is if their defense could start playing at even an average level. Hopefully they will get back Leighton Vander Esch this week, that could help solidify the run defense which has been porous.
Monday night will be interesting as the Cowboys begin their effort to navigate their schedule without Dak Prescott.
