Weekly Cowboys Poll: Cowboys biggest weakness to this point

Which of these issues are the Cowboys biggest weakness going forward?

This week, with all of the discontent inside the Dallas Cowboys organization between the coaching staff and some players, we need to take a look at the weaknesses on this team. Let’s see which of these are the biggest reason for the Cowboys failures so far this season by taking a poll.

Let’s kick this off on the offensive side of the football.

Injuries and a lack of continuity along the offensive line

When the Cowboys were informed that center Travis Frederick was retiring, the team felt confident that backup Joe Looney was going to be able to come in and hold down the position. Then the injuries started to pile up with La’el Collins (hip) and Tyron Smith (neck) lost for the season. Then Cam Erving and Looney go down with knee injures and guard Zack Martin left last week’s game with a concussion.

Their replacements are doing the best they can, but the Cowboys are admittedly scrambling to get something going with their patchwork offensive line. Until players like Martin and Looney get healthier, the offensive line will continue to be the weak link on this offense.

Next up, the defense.

Defensive players lack of performance

This defense, from the beginning of the season, just seemed to lack the fire that they’ve had in the past. They don’t have the same “HotBoyz” defensive linemen swag that we’ve grown accustomed to. The same goes for the secondary, they just seem lost now. The secondary has seen far too many blown coverages and the defensive line isn’t getting the pressure needed. The linebackers, mainly Jaylon Smith, are constantly out of position to make plays.

The talent on this defense alone should have them ranked somewhere in the middle tier of the NFL, not dead last. If they can’t get this turned around fast then we are in for a long season and many of them could be looking for a new home next season.

Losing the turnover battle to ourselves

The Cowboys over the last few seasons haven’t really been the best when it comes to creating takeaways, but this season they are losing the turnover battle by a wide margin. So far this season the Cowboys have turned the ball over on offense 15 times while creating only three turnovers on defense, that’s a -12 margin. The closest teams to the Cowboys are the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings with a -7 margin.

With those numbers, no one can win games in this league and it’s showing right now with the Cowboys. They must get their fumble and interception troubles under control if they want to have any chance of winning the NFC Least division this season. If they can’t then you can start getting ready for the NFL Draft.

What do you, the fans think?
