Injuries have in many ways defined the season so far for the Dallas Cowboys and even on their bye week they are being dealt blows. Tuesday morning brought the news that rookie cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a fractured bone in his foot during the team’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Given how much time is left in the season, it is possible that his rookie year is done and that he won’t be seen until 2021. His future is bright nonetheless.
Diggs’ absence in the secondary will be yet another tough situation for the Cowboys defense to overcome, but they are unfortunately used to new trials every single week. Diggs has arguably been the team’s best corner since being thrust into a starter’s role at the beginning of the season, but Chidobe Awuzie, when healthy, would challenge for that best corner title.
Dallas has been without Awuzie since he was injured against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. It appears as if that long stretch might be over starting next Sunday after the bye.
The Dallas Cowboys have activated Chidobe Awuzie off of injured reserve
It will be a while before we see the Cowboys play again as they are on their bye, but when they return next Sunday on the road against the Minnesota Vikings it does appear that Awuzie has a serious chance to help as the team activated him off of injured reserve on Tuesday. From the mothership:
Some good news to balance the bad news of Trevon Diggs’ foot fracture: the Cowboys have activated cornerback Chidobe Awuzie from the Reserve/Injured list.
Awuzie started the first two games before injuring his hamstring on special teams against the Falcons in Week 2. The Cowboys placed Awuzie on IR Sept. 25 and started his 21-day IR practice window on Oct. 22.
That game in Minnesota will actually come exactly one month after Awuzie started his 21-day IR practice window as it is scheduled to take place on November 22nd. While it is unfortunate that Trevon Diggs will not be there, having Awuzie back will certainly go a long way.
Finally, some good news.
